A light led courtyard gallery that floats within a contemporary GOA home.
Delicately placed within a 2012 residence by our partners, Ghayyoor Obaid Architects (GOA), the Floating Gallery engages a home already rich in privacy, layered sequences, and the weave of landscape and architecture. In the spirit of GOA’s climate responsive craft, the insert strengthens the house’s language while creating a quiet destination for art.
Light, atmosphere, and a courtyard setting
The gallery, designed by GOA, draws conceptual and architectural cues from the main house, especially its use of top light. A half vaulted ceiling and clerestory glazing inspired a roofline that brings filtered daylight from above, letting the mood shift through the day. Set lightly in the courtyard, detached yet central, the pavilion is encircled by a shallow reflecting pond that reintroduces water as a poetic element. More than an exhibition room, it is a carefully tuned response that preserves continuity, supports adaptation, and sustains a living dialogue between light, landscape, and form.
